My client – a brilliant nutrition and menopause coach – started opening up about her story. Not just her qualifications or business journey, but the lived experiences that shaped her long before any of that. Adversities. The kind that could have knocked her off course – but instead, made her fierce, resilient, deeply empathetic to her clients.

As we worked through her messaging, it became clear: this wasn’t just backstory. It was the heartbeat of her business. The reason she shows up the way she does. The ‘why’ behind the work.

We didn’t tuck it away in the background. We brought it front and centre. It now anchors her About page, features in her podcast intros, and lives across all her content – because it’s the piece her audience connects with most.

This is why I care so much about this work. Messaging isn’t just about sounding polished. It’s about digging deep into the meaning behind what you do – and helping other people feel that too.

2. AI isn't just for big business. What can you unlock in your solo one with it? 🧠

A number of years ago, I found an AI tool called Wordtune. It rewrote and helped edit sentences, and it blew my mind. Later I was leading a team of 8 writers – and tools like this saved my editorial bacon. Fast forward to 2025, I recently did a voice-note-led AMA inside the amazing Wilder Collective all about how to use AI to sharpen your marketing and processes (without losing your tone, your audience or your sanity). Now I'm sharing the free toolkit with you.

3. Listen: Messaging, sales and the story behind it all 🎧

I had an honest, energising chat on the Hidden Gems podcast with Amanda Jane (who’s a total gem herself!).

We talked about:

  • Why your story is your strongest asset
  • What actually goes into a high-converting homepage
  • What a funnel is (without the jargon) and are funnels dead?!
  • How to create messaging that feels true across your site, socials and sales calls

We also may have swapped stories about Michael Bublé and One Direction...

4. Messaging tip of the week: Stop hiding the “why now”

One of the easiest things to forget on a sales page or in a launch is urgency with meaning.

That doesn’t mean slapping a “limited time only!” banner at the top; it means helping your reader understand what they risk by not taking action now.

This could be:

  • A shift in the market (e.g. “this new platform is changing how your audience buys”)
  • A pain point that’s escalating (“burnout is creeping in because your systems aren’t set up to support you”)
  • Or simply timing (“this is the slow season – the best time to rebuild your strategy”)

When people understand why it matters now, not “someday”, they’re far more likely to act. If you don’t give them a reason to move today – they won’t. In marketing, this is called temporal relevance – creating urgency by linking your offer to what your audience is already experiencing or anticipating. And when you do that well? It doesn’t feel pushy. It feels timely, helpful, and clear.
